Jeff Cuthbert AM
Jeff’s early working life was spent with the National Coal Board as an Apprentice Mining Surveyor based at Oakdale and Markham Collieries. Following that he won in place at University College Cardiff to study Mineral Exploitation. He graduated in 1974. Upon graduation he stayed a further year at University as President of the Students’ Union. Jeff then returned to the NCB before switching discipline to Civil Engineering.
In more recent times he’s known as the Welsh Assembly Member for this constituency. A post that he’s held since 2003. Currently he’s also a member of the Welsh Government as the Deputy Minister for Skills having been appointed by the First Minister in May 2011.
Jeff has been working on this project since its inception almost five years ago. His links with the Miners’ Hospital are strong. Not only were his children and step-children born there but, as a type 2 diabetic, he attended regularly to receive treatment and monitoring.
Jeff appreciates the history of the Miners’ as well as its value as a medical facility. But he acknowledges that the new Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr will bring enormous benefits. He’s publicly stated that saving the original building (The Beeches) for a valid community purpose will be a great bonus to the main prize of the new hospital.
Jeff is a Corporate Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development. He brings not only clear understanding of the political process in Wales but a professional approach to our organisation and work.
